The Genetics Medical Laboratory Technologist carries out a diverse range of work activities, ensuring all duties and responsibilities and handled with accuracy and efficiency to provide quality results. The Genetics Medical Laboratory Technologist will perform all aspects of sample processing and analysis using a wide variety of advanced Cytogenetic and Molecular Genetic laboratory applications. The Genetics Medical Laboratory Technologist will identify incidents and non-conformances, escalate concerns as appropriate, document quality control, and participate in quality assurance activities.

  • CMLTO Registration in good standing with endorsement in the disciplines of Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics.
  • Current (minimum of 3 years) practical experience in a clinical Genetics laboratory.
  • Experience with computer database management and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Proficient in isolating DNA and RNA from blood, fresh tissues, FFPE pathology samples, tissue culture cells, amniotic fluid cells and CVS tissue.
  • Proficient in molecular diagnostic techniques including gene amplification by PCR, Sanger sequencing, real-time PCR, array technology.
  • NextGen sequencing experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in Cytogenetic diagnostic techniques including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making, chromosome analysis, F.I.S.H. and use of an image capture system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
