As our new Survey Assistant, located in Fort St. John, BC you are passionate about spending time in the field. Whether you have a technical background or love exploring every nook and cranny of our great outdoors, you have an unquenchable thirst for seeing and doing it all!

This position requires a quick and engaged learner, with proven success in adaptability, productivity, and high physical abilities. Ideally, you are organized and highly collaborative, with strong communication skills and an infectious positivity that positively affects team members around you. You also have a strong handle on equipment and field tools, with a healthy respect for the outdoors, while timely completing the task at hand.

What you will do:

  • Arrive at work on time and prepared for the assigned task and shift.
  • Assist with various tasks as required, track and maintain housekeeping of tools, equipment and materials at project sites, office and in crew vehicles.
  • Support a positive and professional team atmosphere and acts as a positive ambassador for the company.
  • Assist Crew Chief in achieving project timelines and deliverables.
  • Complete mandatory safety training and practice competent operation of all equipment and tasks.
  • Adhere to, without exception, the safety requirements of the client, OH&S and the GeoVerra Safety program.
  • Actively participate in Emergency Response Planning, Hazard Assessment, Job Safety Analysis development, daily tailgate meetings and comply with all safety requirements.

What you will bring:

  • Diploma/Degree in Geomatics or Civil Engineering Technology, or related discipline preferred, not required.
  • Previous experience in Surveying or other related types of work in the great outdoors.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly for the client, project, and GeoVerra requirements.
  • Commitment to respond to situations that occur outside traditional working hours.
  • Capacity to take directions and communicate effectively.
  • An understanding of survey methodologies is considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Completed training and valid tickets in First Aid, H2S and CSTS safety training is an asset.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace

Job conditions

  • Out-of-town work (possible shift work) and frequent travel required.
  • Ability to carry, lift and push 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
