Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead educator in planning and implementing age-appropriate educational and play activities.
- Provide support and supervision to children during daily routines, including meals, naptime, and outdoor play.
- Help prepare and organize learning materials, resources, and activity areas.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Foster positive relationships with children, promoting their social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Observe and document children’s behaviors, progress, and developmental milestones.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates on their child’s day and addressing any concerns.
- Collaborate with the lead educator to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
- Assist in promoting positive behavior and social interactions among children.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education.
- Follow the guidance and direction of the lead educator and actively contribute to team meetings and discussions.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an early childhood education assistant certificate or diploma program is preferred.
- Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate teaching methods.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations in early childhood settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience, compassion, and the ability to create a nurturing and supportive environment for young children.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow directions from lead educators.
- Basic computer skills for administrative tasks and record-keeping.
- First Aid and CPR certification may be required or preferred.
- Prior experience working with young children in a daycare or preschool setting is an asset.
Tasks
- Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers
- Storytelling
- Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
- Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
- Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
- Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
- Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
- Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
- Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
- Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
- Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
