Winners will be invited to the UNESCO Youth Hackathon, which will be held in Cartagena, Colombia, on October 23-24, 2025, with UNESCO providing flights and accommodations.
The UNESCO Fully Funded Youth Hackathon 2025 will take place this year in Colombia. The conference aims to bring together young people from all over the world to interact and exchange new ideas for addressing the most serious issues in today’s digital information age. These challenges include the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), the spread of misinformation, online hate speech, platform dominance, and threats to information integrity.
The Youth Hackathon is a flagship activity of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week, engaging young people globally to address pressing issues in today’s digital information ecosystem. These include the growth of artificial intelligence, the spread of misinformation and deception, online hate speech, platform domination, and risks to information integrity. Following the success of the 2024 edition, which had 202 teams from 68 countries, UNESCO is planning an even more powerful 2025 edition.

Structure of Program:
- Prior to presenting their ideas, selected participants will receive free online mentorship.
- Applicants will submit ideas and proposals via the UNESCO website.
- Winning teams will be invited to Colombia to present their projects at the Global MIL Week conference.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the Youth Hackathon 2025 at UNESCO in Colombia, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants from every country are eligible for this program.
- Team Size: 3 to 6 members (national, regional, or international).
- Team members must be between the age of 18 and 30 years.
- Gender balance and diversity are strongly promoted in teams.
- No prior experience is required, you only need enthusiasm and motivation.
