Are you a dynamic and progressive payroll professional with a keen interest in serving your local community in a human resources capacity? We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the CVRD in the key exempt role of Payroll Assistant.
Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources Division, the Payroll Assistant provides confidential payroll and generalist human resources support of a moderately complex and diversified nature. Judgment, discretion, and consistency in applying the appropriate legislation, collective agreement provisions, and/or policies are required daily, as is adhering to strict deadlines. The Payroll Assistant’s primary responsibility is to support the CVRD’s payroll function, including production of the bi-weekly payroll, and secondarily, to support general human resources activities.
As our ideal candidate, you are knowledgeable about the methods, principles, and practices governing employee pay, benefits, and entitlements, as well as basic human resources principles, legislation, regulations, and employment standards. You understand collective agreement provisions and interpretations and the associated labour relations issues, and can apply all of this knowledge to payroll matters. You have excellent attention to detail, great mathematic ability, good judgement and decision-making skills, and you can think analytically while troubleshooting. You are trustworthy, can work confidentially, and can build solid working relationships. You work well with both computers and people, and have exceptional time management, communication, and customer service skills. Last but not least, you also possess the following qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Business Administration or a related discipline
- A minimum of three (3) years of related, practical payroll and general human resources experience, preferably in a local government environment or public employer setting
- Experience with Vadim, specifically the payroll function, is an asset
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation – completed or in progress
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered

This position works 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 830-430) and is eligible for the CVRD’s Flex Time Program. This position is also eligible for Work From Home consideration.
The CVRD offers a competitive salary for this exempt position starting at $73,621.59 commensurate with experience plus a comprehensive benefits package including extended health / dental / insurance, pension, and paid vacation.
