• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
• Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
• Listen to directions and suggestions from supervisors or other employees regarding safe and proper work practices. Evaluate that information to devise and implement a plan based on the evaluation for carrying out the duties of this position.
• Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
• Identify workplace safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize them.
• Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
• Be motivated and work productively.
• Become thoroughly knowledgeable with the project's contract documents, drawings, specifications and scope of work.
• Manage document control; receive and log in new issue drawings and other contract documents; maintain document control log.
• Review new issue drawings and contract documents for change of conditions; quantify impact of changes and review with supervisor; distribute new issues to field.
• Update schedule on a weekly basis and take measures to maintain target schedule. Inform management of potential changes that would affect the critical path of the schedule
• Attend/conduct internal planning meetings.
• Purchase and expedite delivery of materials; manage the material’s control operation.
• Manage subcontractors on site and ensure the site is in clean, safe and tidy condition all day
• Strive to develop an optimum work environment for those directly supervised and the project as a whole.
• Look for ways to improve project operations; and recommend, as appropriate, better methods, staffing and procedural changes.
• Act as site supervisor / coordinator on multiple projects.
• Train lower level site supervisors
• In addition, perform any other job specific-duties as requested by the project manager
  
  

Qualifications:

• Relevant construction related post-secondary education or equivalent
• Minimum 3-5 years site supervision experience in general construction (commercial preferred)
• Excellent interpersonal / communication skills
• Ability to conduct construction progress meetings
• Computer proficiency with MS Office programs, AutoCAD and MS Project
• Strong technical knowledge of the construction process and timelines
• Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications
• Working knowledge of building and construction components
• Fluent in written and verbal communication in English (French / English preferred)
• Highly organised and excellent time management skills
• Outstanding multi-tasking abilities
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Ambitious and strong leadership skills required
